Trinacria (#0646)
I first saw a Trinacria symbol on the web page of a friend of mine who makes jewelry. The term Trinacria means "three coves" as for the shape of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean. The Greeks called it Trinakrias, the Romans called it Trinacrium, meaning "star with 3 points". Today its known as Sicily, or Sicilia in Italian. One does not have to be Sicilian to appreciate the truly bizarre image of a winged medusa head with three legs, does one?
